Natural Abstracts: Point Lobos Weston Beach

Peter loves to visit iconic locations, I have to admit I find them intimidating, amazing photographers have already captured the unique essence of the place, what could I possibly have to add?  We recently visited Point Lobos State Park in California, a place where Edward Weston made some of his most memorable images.  I wanted to see the place through his eyes, but also apply my own vision to see if I could come up with a unique series of abstracts.

The series below I captured on one of the beaches he photographed often.  I tried different angles and focal lengths.  I focused on the shapes, colors, and textures.  For me it was important to “edit out” extraneous elements, and try to create abstracts that captured the movement of the ocean.  When I began to process the images, I started to feel frustrated again….they weren’t unique or different.  I experimented and came up with a color toning effect.  I like how these images turned out.  Now on to the next iconic spot Peter picks.
