The Valley of Fire State Park is about an hour north of Las Vegas.  It is a great way to get “back to nature” while enjoying the pamper and civilization of Las Vegas.  This area has beautiful red rock and many named and un-named arches.  Here is what you might see:

The highlight of the trip was finding the Windstone Arch which has been well hidden for many years.

The other highlight of the trip was a hike out to The Wave (see cover).

Finally, there are several arches near parking Lot #3.

We explored the Atlatl Loop and the White Dooms Loop sections of the park on this trip.  There is another great section in the eastern part of the park called the Elephant Rock Loop, that we did not have time for on this trip.  After about four hours in the park,we needed to leave – we had dinner and a show planned in Las Vegas – just an hour away.

We used Bob Hitchman’s comprehensive and very useful newsletter to explore the park.
