Photographing Murals and Flowers in Lompoc, CA

Lompoc is 150 miles north of Los Angeles.  It usually is not considered a “destination” town, but it does have three very interesting things to photograph: the La Purisima Mission, the “cut flower” fields, and the murals in downtown.  Here is Mary’s blog about La Purisima.  See more here for the murals and flower fields.

We probably did not go at the right time of year to see immense fields of flowers.  Not sure what we were expecting, but there were far fewer “fields” then we had hoped for.

Here is what it looked liked from the road.

Here is what it looked liked from the road.  It was a car trip, so I brought a ladder to get high and shoot down on the flowers.

Make sure you get wide angles and then some close-ups.

Here is Mary getting up close and personal with a sun flower.

We have over 50 photos of the murals around town.  Some are whimsical.  Many tell the story of Lompoc.  Most highlight the role of agriculture, wine making, and the military in the area.  We ate some good food and had a bit of nice wine.  Lompoc makes for a really fun weekend jaunt.
